The development of composite materials requires a sound understanding of the physical, chemical and mechanical behavior of its individual constituents together with the resulting effects on the meso- and macroscopic level. The properties of the composite are both influenced by the basic components (matrix and reinforcement) and the processing method used. The Composite Test Laboratories at the LCC therefore cover a broad range of techniques aiming to characterize the physical, chemical and thermo-mechanical behavior of matrix systems and laminates, fiber-volume content and porosity, fiber architecture via microscopy and the mechanical response under quasi-static and high strain rate loading conditions.
