Based on the automation technology for composites, the Chair of Carbon Composites researches the possibilities of additive manufacturing approaches in the field of engineering plastics. Size scaling and further development of extrusion-based 3D printing is an important addition.
The installation and commissioning of an AM-Flexbot system of the Dutch manufacturer CEAD B.V. has now been completed in economically challenging times at the site of the Faculty of Aerospace and Geodesy in Taufkirchen. The screw extruder based system is an important addition to the already installed tape laying machines. Thus, a park of automated machines for the production of composite structures in additive manner, but also for tool making of classical fiber composite process routes is available. Research activities are focused on process improvements, increasing material quality for use in structural applications and combination processes with continuous fibers. Working with complex automated systems will give TUM graduates the opportunity to acquire state-of-the-art skills for tomorrow's production.
The plant will be used directly for research purposes in the EU-funded CleanSky2 project Combo3D. The aim is to print a tool for the production of aerospace structures.

- Processing of high temperature materials up to 450°C
