[BT, ST, MT] Design of a container structure and development of a cooling system for the operation control system of a Hyperloop test track

TUM Hyperloop

TUM Hyperloop is a programm at TUM, in which a demonstrator of a full-scale hyperloop is being developed. The demonstrator includes a fully functional vehicle with levitation system, a vacuum tube, a propulsion system and an operations control system. For the work on the operations control system, we are looking for a student who would like to write his bachelor, semester or master thesis in the TUM Hyperloop project.

Thesis Description

We at the Operation Control Subteam of the TUM Hyperloop project are developing the operations control system to control the test track as well as the power distribution system. Since the test track is located outside, the electronics used must be protected from the environmental influences. For this purpose we use ISO containers, which are placed next to the test track. Control cabinets and large electrical devices are installed in these containers. 

As part of a bachelor, semester or master thesis, the containers with the installed electrical components are to be designed in CAD. This includes the consultation with suppliers, determination of the screw-on points as well as the mechanical design of the structure. In addition, the required cooling capacity of the cooling system is to be determined by a heat balance. 

Tasks: 

  • CAD Design of a housing structure for an Operation Control System for a 24 m Hyperloop testtrack
  • Design of a cooling system for an Operation Control System
  • Close collaboration with suppliers
  • Ordering Components

Requirements:

  • Experience with CAD Software (Siemens NX preferred)
  • Highly motivated Master- or Bachelor student in Aerospace Engineering
  • Independent work and planning

[BT, ST, MT] Design of the TUM Hyperloop Tube door

TUM Hyperloop

TUM Hyperloop is a project of TUM in which a demonstrator of a full-scale hyperloop is being developed. The demonstrator includes a fully functional vehicle with levitation system, a propulsion system and a vacuum Tube. For the work on the Tube door, we are looking for a student who would like to write a bachelor, semester or master thesis in the TUM Hyperloop project.

Thesis Description

As part of the Tube subteam you will get the chance to be responsible for the complete production of a large mechanical structure. The sliding door needs to seal the Hyperloop tube airtight. Based on a first concept you will be responsible for the design in CAD and the integration of mechanisms and components. You will be part of the TUM Hyperloop Team with more than 70 people working on the future of transportation.

Within your bachelor, semester or master thesis, the Tube Door is to be designed. This includes the consultation with suppliers, calculation of structural integrity, the choice of materials and a detailed design of the structure. Take the challenge!
