The "Shanghai Ranking" evaluates the research performance of universities worldwide. TUM is one of the few German universities to regularly make it into the top hundred universities worldwide and also ranks among the top European technical universities.
In a recently published subject ranking of the editors of the Shanghai Ranking, TUM has been successful once more: In the fields of "Remote Sensing" and "Aerospace Engineering", it ranks 8th and 16th worldwide – and is thus the undisputed number one in Germany. This puts the new Department of Aerospace and Geodesy (LRG) also at the top of the TUM-wide ranking.
With its current 21 professorships and chairs, the LRG is already playing in the Champions League of research. This position will be further strengthened in the years to come through professional reinforcements and bridge professorships at the borders of the classical disciplines as well as extensive investments at the new locations in Taufkirchen/Ottobrunn and Oberpfaffenhofen.
