Europe aims at being climate-neutral by 2050 according to the European Commission's "European Green Deal". The German government's latest economic stimulus package promotes innovations that address the challenges of climate protection and digitization. Modern mobility is one of them – more electric cars, better charging infrastructure.
While electric cars are enjoying increasing popularity, shipping and air travel will have to continue to burn fuels for the foreseeable future. Agnes Jocher is researching approaches to reduce emissions in the transport sector. For example, she is investigating strategies that will allow us to control soot particle emissions in combustion processes.
The young scientist was appointed to the professorship "Sustainable Future Mobility" by TUM. She is the second of a total of 30 new professors who are to expand the research profile of the new department in the years to come. With her expertise in the field of modern mobility, she will also play a central role in the TUM Hyperloop network.
Agnes Jocher (*1986) earned her Diploma in Engineering Sciences at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) and received her doctorate from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at RWTH Aachen University and the Sorbonne Université. As a postdoctoral fellow, she worked at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Most recently, she worked at the Federal Environment Agency in the field of sustainable aviation fuels.
"I am excited to work with so many talented and motivated students and colleagues at TUM," says Agnes Jocher. "Transportation remains a major driver of economic growth and an essential tool for bringing people together." Together with her colleagues at the Department of Aerospace and Geodesy, she wants to tackle the challenges of future mobility and thus contribute to a more climate-neutral Europe.
