International Conference Policy meets Land Management: Contributions to the Achievement of the MDG, 17-18th of April 2008

The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) represent a set of unprecedented efforts which countries around the globe and the world’s leading development institutions have undertaken in order to meet the needs of the world’s poorest people. These efforts have brought together a considerable number of professionals of different fields and from all over the world, who have committed themselves to contributing to the development of a more equitable world. Clearly, there has been progress towards implementing these goals, but, halfway to the 2015 deadline, the overall success is still far from satisfactory, and many targets still need more consideration and stronger efforts. It is this frame which brings us now together and gives us the idea of organizing the conference titled “Policy meets Land Management: Contributions to the Achievement of the MDGs” in which we intend to discuss, in particular from the point of view of the German contribution to the achievement of these goals, about the state of affairs of the MGDs and what path should we follow in the future if we want to truly achieve these aims and effectively help reducing poverty and delivering equality around the world.

Land Fragmentation and Land Consolidation in CEEC: A Gate towards sustainable rural development in the new Millenium
The conference provided a opportunity for experts to discuss about land fragmentation in Central Eastern European Countries (CEEC) and how to cope with it. Beside the exchange of experience another objective of the conference is to develop guidelines for land consolidation practice in CEEC.
